At Delhi’s bustling Indira Gandhi International Airport the woman, 82 years old, had booked a wheelchair through Air India for her journey. However, when she got there she was not assisted. Even with her condition being fragile and her weakened condition, she was required to go through the airport alone.
In tragic circumstances, she collapsed in the terminal. The horrifying incident is recalled by witnesses that saw the old lady fall onto the floor, slamming her head hard. Her condition was quickly taken care of in the ICU where doctors were concerned about possible internal bleeding.
Her daughter shared the tale openly, and described their family’s grief and anger. She said that they followed the instructions, reserved the wheelchair prior to departure and entrusted the airline to look after their mother. Air India, however, said it was not guilty of negligence and claimed they had been late arriving, and putting the blame on them.
There is a possibility of controversies however the result isn’t the same: a woman of age struggling for her life in the hospital bed because of a wheelchair that wasn’t available. It’s haunting to think of an airport that was supposed to be an entry point to new adventures transformed into a scene filled with blood, fear and tears.
